LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Some nationally-known political pundits literally "rolled" into Jones County Friday evening to campaign for Senate candidate Chris McDaniel on his home turf. A Tea Party Express rally was held at Laurel's Ramada Convention Center.

McDaniel's a Laurel native and he's facing longtime incumbent Thad Cochran in next week's Republican runoff.

Radio and TV analysts and political bloggers from across the country were joined by several local and state politicians in endorsing McDaniel.

"It is way past time to reel in the out-of-control spending, it's time to put a stop to the grotesque overreach of government," said Donlyn Turnbull, spokesperson for the Tea Party Express. "It's time for the next generation of conservative leadership. It is time to elect Chris McDaniel," she said.

"I keep seeing all these commercials from people like Tent Lott and others who say, 'you've got to put Thad Cochran back in there, he's brought home the bacon'...we don't need somebody who'll go back to Washington and bring home the bacon, we need somebody who'll go to Washington, D.C. and cut the pork," said Lars Larson, a syndicated radio talk show host. "And Chris McDaniel is that man," he said.

The GOP runoff is next Tuesday, June 24.
