Marion County officials search for stabbing suspect

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Marion County authorities are searching for a man they consider to be armed and dangerous. William Walter Rowell, 40, of Columbia, is wanted in connection with an aggravated assault that occurred Tuesday night.

According to Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall, Rowell allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the chest and dropped her off at a relative's house. The relative then drove the victim to Marion General hospital, where she was airlifted to another hospital that officers did not want to disclose for her safety.

"We have not been able to conduct a personal interview with the victim yet, due to her condition," said Hall. "Her condition is improving, and she is doing better, and should be moved to another room today," said Hall.

Hall stated that the investigators are working to piece together information from the incident, but it has not been easy due to the victim's condition.

According to Hall, Rowell is believed to be in the victim's vehicle, a gold 1998 model Ford Expedition.  "After the incident Rowell took a gun from a relative's house and has not been seen since," said Hall.

"Rowell is considered to be armed and dangerous, and we believe he is laying low at this time," said Hall.

Hall stated that the investigation is still ongoing.  If you have any information on Rowell's location, contact the Marion County Sheriff's Department at (601) 736-2033.
