Southern Miss Athletics Press Release

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Three of four Southern Miss players that were drafted earlier this month in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Bradley Roney (8th round, Atlanta), Conor Fisk (24th round, Toronto), Mason Robbins (25th round, Chicago White Sox), have each signed their first professional contract and have been assigned to their first minor league baseball club.

Roney, a right-handed pitcher, starts his professional career for the Danville (Va.) Braves in the Appalachian League. The D-Braves open their season Thursday, June 19, at the Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets.

Fisk, another right-handed pitcher, joins the Bluefield (W.Va.) Blue Jays for the start of his pro career. The Blue Jays are also in the Appalachian League and entertains the Johnson City (Tenn.) Cardinals on Thursday night.

As for Robbins, he made his professional debut Tuesday night and got his first hit – an infield single – in his first at bat for the Great Falls (Mont.) Voyagers of the Pioneer League.

Taylor Nunez, who completed his third year with the Golden Eagles in 2014, was taken in the 29th round by the Boston Red Sox.

Two Golden Eagle signees, catcher Blake Anderson (Meridian, Miss.) and left-handed pitcher Justin Steele (Leakesville, Miss.), both have signed with the Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs, respectively.
