The city of Wiggins was presented a $240,000 check by Southern District Transportation Commissioner, Tom King, Wednesday.
The funds are for providing extensions of the bike pathway from Blaylock Park to Stone County Middle School and other points of interests around the city. The money will also provide lighting and trash receptacles along existing bike routes.
This project will help Wiggins accomplish the 2006 Pedestrian Sidewalk/Bikeway Plan. This was an effort to encourage bike riding while maintaining safety to both the bikers and motorists.
The money comes from MDOT's Transportation Alternative Program (TAP).
