Hattiesburg finalist in Bark for your Park contest, voting underway

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree and the Lamar County Board of Supervisors have thrown their support behind the Hub City Humane Societies' effort to get a dog park built in West Hattiesburg.

Hub City nominated Hattiesburg to take part in the Pet Safe Bark for your Park online contest where they compete against other cities to win $100,000 to build the dog park. In the preliminary round Hattiesburg received more than 2400 votes and finished in the top 15. Voting for the finals has already got underway.

"From now until July, 25 we need everybody in the community to vote," said Virginia Cheatham, HCHS manager. "Votes is what is going to get us the grand prize. Last year a town that won had half the population we do. So it's doable. We can win."

Folks can vote up to two times a day at petsafe.net or the Pet Safe facebook page.
