HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

C Spire announced Wednesday it is buying MegaGate Broadband for an undisclosed amount.

The deal will require regulatory approval.

Headquartered in Hattiesburg, MegaGate Broadband provides voice, data and business telecommunications services in the state.

It was founded in 1998 as a division of Cellular One.

C Spire, based in Ridgeland, provides wireless communications and high-speed Internet to consumers and businesses.

"As of this point, we've signed a purchase agreement, the actual deal will not close for about another two months, pending some regulatory approvals that have to take place," said Kevin Pack, CEO of MegaGate Broadband. "And then, there will be a transition period and we're probably five or six months away from the actual name change. Today we're MegaGate and we'll continue to be MegaGate for awhile," he said.

Pack believes many of MegaGate Broadband's three dozen employees will be hired by C Spire.
