HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Fieldhouse for the Homeless in Hattiesburg was founded in 2013 by two local women, Priscilla Browne and Cynthia Young. The organization assists the homeless with obtaining identification, getting Social Security cards, finding jobs, and helping veterans with their benefits.
Brian Jones is one face of many the organization has already helped. "I know there are still some good people out here today," Jones said. "I know they have their lives to live too, but to take the time out of their life to help another person going through their struggles, I feel relieved that I was given a fresh start."
Jones has been in the program for nearly four months and now has an apartment thanks to the Fieldhouse. "I know it worked for me," he added. "I know some other people it worked for too."
Fieldhouse for the Homeless works in conjunction with other organizations such as The Salvation Army, Christian Services and area churches.
One volunteer, Randy Price, a local businessman, donates his time helping the organization.
"This place has become a powerful source to connect people," Price stated. "To help take them off the streets and give them the opportunity to get their life back together."
Fieldhouse for the Homeless is a day center only.
