McDaniel energized by Tea Party victory over Cantor

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

United States Senate hopeful Chris McDaniel told a crowd of Jones County Republican women Wednesday he was energized by Tuesday night's primary upset in Virginia against House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

"The people of this country are waking up," said McDaniel.

McDaniel said he believes this Tea Party victory will encourage more of his supporters to show up at the polls in the June 24 runoff, but he explained that he does not believe the Republican Party has become a party of two groups.

"I'm a Reaganite," he said.

In response to Senator Thad Cochran's comments Tuesday calling McDaniel an "extremist," McDaniel asked why Cochran never called President Barack Obama those names.

As for fundraising efforts for the runoff, McDaniel said with a big smile that it is "outstanding."
