HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Developers will soon be opening the initial portion of a new "resort-style" senior living community in Hattiesburg. Twelve independent cottages are part of phase-one of The Claiborne. It's located at Whispering Pines, which is an 80-acre development along Highway 11 near Tatum Park.

The cottages will be ready for leasing in about four to six weeks. The Claiborne will also feature 44 assisted living apartments, which will open in mid-August.

And more than 100 independent living apartments at the facility are set to open early next year.

"You'll have your entire continuum of care here with personalized services, which is much different than some of the other providers in our area," said Sandy Kusy, executive director of The Claiborne

It will also offer nursing home care in the next three to five years.
