Salem teacher denied motion for reduced sentence

A Walthall County teacher found guilty of four counts of sexual battery involving students was denied her motion for a lesser sentence on Tuesday.

Walthall County junior high teacher Nolana Griffin, 40, was sentenced to 25 years with 15 to serve and 10 years post supervision.

A recent motion filed to reduce the sentence was denied and Judge Michael Taylor decided to keep his original sentence. Taylor sided with the parents in the case, referencing the duties of a school teacher in a student's life.

Griffin, who is no longer employed, taught English, reading, science and health at Salem Attendance Center.
