Car smashes into state trooper's vehicle along Hwy 98

PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A car smashed into the vehicle of a state trooper who had pulled over to divert traffic on Hwy 98 near Beaumont on Friday.

The trooper was preparing to help a man in a broken-down 18 wheeler when a black Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed smashed into the parked state trooper vehicle, then flipped and lodged into the back of the 18 wheeler.

The state trooper is recovering at home, but the man driving the car is in critical condition, according to Brent Barfield with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

An investigation is ongoing.
