Petal receives $700,000 to improve highway lights

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - The city of Petal has received around $700,000 to install highway lights along the Evelyn Gandy Parkway.

It is part of MDOT's Beautification Project and will also include money for planting trees and shrubs.

The city will start accepting bids in July for the construction which should begin sometime in December and finish by summer 2015.

There will be a total of 91 lights installed from the Leaf River bridge down the Evelyn Gandy Parkway to Springfield Road. This will take the lighting through the business district in that area, including Walmart.

The city's part of the 80/20 matching funds will be around $180,000.
