Local Veteran: Remember those who have served

Posted: Updated:
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A local World War II veteran reminded everyone today to thank those men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States military.

Travis Johnson, who fought in World War II, earned a Bronze Medal, endured months of freezing temperatures, and survived to tell his story. Johnson encouraged Pine Belt residents to pay tribute to those who served.

"I don't know how this country could ever repay the families that lost loved ones in D-Day because it was terrible, but it had to be done, so that's what D-Day means to me," said Johnson.

Johnson retired and lives in the Oak Grove area with his wife.
