Shipley's Donuts celebrates National Doughnut Day

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - While millions across the world commemorated the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of France, there was another D-Day being honored.

Shipley's Donuts of Hattiesburg celebrated National Doughnut Day, observed the first Friday of June every year. Employees were making doughnuts around the clock to keep up with the high demand.

Drew Kern, manager of Shipley's, said he looks forward to the commemoration all year as a way of giving back to customers.

"It's the best day of the year in my opinion," Kern said. "Better than Christmas or any other holiday. We give away a free glazed doughnut to every customer that comes in, with or without purchase. It's our way of saying thanks, giving back and celebrating national doughnut day."
