The University of Southern Mississippi College of Arts and Letters is hosting its 10th annual theatre day camp for children ages eight through 15 on the USM campus.
Midsummer Musical Theatre Experience is set for June 16-27, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Campers will receive vocal and acting coaching, movement training, and set and costume instruction. At the conclusion of the camp the campers will perform Journey of the Noble Gnarble, a complete musical where they will incorporate all of the skills they learned.
Camp director Robin Carr said her favorite part of being in charge of the camp is helping shy children become more social.
"I love seeing the look on the children's faces and what they learn through this two week camp experience," said Carr, an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre at USM. "I've had little ones come up, they're really shy the first day and then they go through the camp and they have tons of friends. They're much more outgoing."
The registration fee is $395 per camper, but Carr is offering a discounted fee to those who mention seeing the story on WDAM News 7.
