Columbia has new interim police chief

COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) - The City of Columbia has a new interim police chief.

Friday morning Mayor Robert Bourne swore in Mike Cooper to replace Chief Clint McMurry who turned in his resignation two weeks ago. McMurry had been chief for the past two years. Cooper had been serving as captain investigator and has been on the department since 1994.

"It's bitter sweet," said Cooper. Chief McMurry is going to be missed. He and I have been good friends for years. When I started with the city as a patrolman he was my Sergeant. I looked up to him and I still do. I'm sure he be getting phone calls asking for his advice."

Chief McMurry was presented with a plaque during the ceremony to thank him for his years of service.
