United Blood Services announce urgent need for O-negative donors

This is a news release from the United Blood Services

United Blood Services announced Friday that there is an urgent appeal for type O-negative blood.

United Blood Services has lees than a one-day supply of blood type O-negative and is challenged to meet hospital needs. 

According to the release, it is imperative that the community respond to the need immediately.

Only six percent of the population has O-negative blood, yet at hospital trauma centers, sometimes as much as 15 percent of the blood transfused is O-negative. 

Donors with type-O negative blood are encouraged to schedule an appointment time online at www.Unitedbloodservices.org. 

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old and weight a minimum of 110 pounds with good health.
