(CNN) - Former President Ronald Reagan died ten years ago Thursday, on June 5, 2004.

Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

He was the country's 40th president, in office from 1981 to 1989.

Reagan was shot in an assassination attempt, after only 69 days in office, but he recovered.

As president, he helped bring an end to the Cold War and is remembered for focusing on making America prosperous.

Reagan was an actor for much of his life before getting into politics.
