Columbia's Ti'Quan Forbes excited about MLB chances
Ti'Quan Forbes. State champion at Columbia High School in baseball, Ole Miss commit, and potential millionaire.
Forbes is in the MLB's top 50 prospects of this year's draft and he believes he's ready for the next level.
"I'm in a good spot for myself right now and I think I'm going to go today," Forbes said at his alma mater's field house.
"It's hard to do out of all the kids through the world and for you to be top 50 coming from the small town of Columbia is great. It's just been a blast to have that recognition on myself and my team."
Asked about the school's most famous alum, Forbes said he's proud to be from a town that produced Walter Payton.
"People don't think that Columbia, Mississippi can have somebody like that, but I think if you work hard and put your mind to it you can do anything."
Former head coach Greg Owen said he's happy for the player he's seen grow through the years.
"He came to us with a great sense of confidence. Even as a 9th grader he started at short stop on our state championship team in 2011 and it was nothing for him to fill that spot. The moment has never been too big for him."
Rounds 1-2 of the draft are tonight. Rounds 3-10 are Friday with rounds 11-40 Saturday.
