(CNN) – Wednesday marks the 25th anniversary of China's deadly crackdown on protesters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

The People's Liberation Army opened fire on the crowd, and the number of people killed has never been clear.

Anywhere from 100s to more than a 1,000 people died in the center of Beijing.

Hong Kong is the only place in China where people can commemorate, or even discuss, the event openly.
