Cochran versus Mcdaniel hasattracted massive sums of campaign cash.
With the final ballots still coming in Wednesday morning, the race looked like it would end up topping $40 pervote.
That is based on at least 12.4 million dollars in spendingand fewer than 300,000 ballots with only a handful of precinctsremaining.
By the time polls opened Tuesday, third-party groups, the superpacs that spend money independent of the campaigns, had pumped about8.4 million dollars into the race.
Most of it was used for televisionadvertising. This is on top of 3 million dollars spent by Cochran's campaignand 1 million from Mcdaniel.
