Hattiesburg gathers to remember former mayor Bobby Chain

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Friends and Family of former Mayor Bobby Chain gathered today to pay their last respects.

The Funeral procession for former Mayor Bobby Chain filled the First Presbyterian Church on Hardy Street today. Bobby Chain, family man and local business man personally purchased nine vacant downtown buildings, helped restore the Saenger Theatre, and helped to bring banks downtown.  He once said, "It was a great privilege for me to do all that, and to have that opportunity. I never was a politician. I guess I proved it during the years I was there."

Current Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree says, "Well we hear a lot about Mayor Chain being an entrepreneur, being someone who really knows how to make a deal happen, his educational prowess, supporting education, and the political aspect of Mayor Chain. I really want people to talk about and know that mayor chain was a family man, he was a man that really valued family life."

Bobby Chain was Hattiesburg mayor from 1980-1985. He was 84 years old.
