Hattiesburg shopping center loses merchandise to flooding

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The furniture warehouse workers along with Citi Trends and Fred's employees arrived Tuesday morning to water flooding their merchandise.

Workers first noticed the water around 7a.m. and called Hattiesburg Fire Department to find the source of the water.

The leak came from a burst water line. The pipe was fixed but the furniture warehouse said they had thousands of dollars in damages, including newly arrived leather furniture.

Carl Miletello, manager of the warehouse said, "It's major damage, it's going to be in the thousands of dollars.  It's going to be hard to say until we get into it, start opening it up to see exactly the extent of the damage… but it's going to be massive damage."

Miletello estimates it will take three to four days to clean the mess, and predicts merchandise will be sold to salvage buyers and discount stores.
