HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of high school students from across Mississippi will arrive in Hattiesburg Sunday for a week's worth of political campaigning and other lessons in democracy as part of the annual Girls State.

The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring the 66th session, which will bring in about 250 young women to the Southern Miss campus.

Girls State teaches the delegates how democracy works, with simulated political campaigns and legislative and judicial processes.

Some state policital leaders are also scheduled to speak at Girls State including Gov. Phil Bryant, who will address the delegates via video Monday morning.
