HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

An evening of comedy at Hattiesburg's Saenger Theater Friday night nearly turned tragic, when performers firing T-shirts from a pneumatic cannon accidentally hit a historic chandelier and knocked out a glass pane, sending it into the audience below.

It happened near the end of the Rick and Bubba 20th Anniversary Show.

Rick Taylor, executive director of the Hattiesburg Tourism and Convention Commissions said luckily, no one was hurt when the piece of glass, which was about 12-by-6 inches, fell 25 feet to the floor.

He said show promoters have apologized and promised to pay for the damages, which he estimated to be about $500.

He also said theater staff were not told the cannon would be used. He said in the future, performers will not be allowed to project any items into the audience.
