Jones County Sheriff's Department investigates alleged tax fraud

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Jones County Sheriff's Department

Jones County Sheriff's Department Investigator Sgt. Scott Gable is currently investigating several claims in reference to a tax preparer taking the refunds of customers.

Sgt. Gable states that Melissa Diane Thrash of Collins will face charges in reference to this fraud.    The investigation revealed Thrash would complete the tax return for her customers and unknowing to the customer, Thrash would apply for a debit card as the primary person and the actual customer would be listed as the secondary person.

Thrash would have the information sent to her address and when the secondary person received their card, the card would have a zero balance on it.

Investigations show the IRS depositing the money on the card but the secondary person would never see a dime of the money.

Anyone who has allowed Melissa Diane Thrash to complete their taxes and has not received their refund should contact SGT. Scott Gable with the Jones County Sheriff Department at 601-425-3147.

This investigation is ongoing, therefore bond in this matter has not been determined.
