When Victor Ellis of Forrest County checked his mail on Wednesday, he was pleasantly surprised to find a card addressed to him stating he was eligible for $100 in gift savings at Walmart and Target stores.
The card had a phone number, which Mr. Ellis decided to call.
"The man on the other end spoke very bad English" Victor said. "That immediately raised my suspicions and when he went on and told me there was a one-dollar activation fee and needed my credit card number, I immediately knew it was a scam."
That was when Mr. Ellis confronted the man on the other end of the phone about this being a scam. The man immediately hung up.
"If they get your credit card information, they'll drain your account pretty darn quick." Mr. Ellis stated.
