RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A probationary employee for the Mississippi Department of corrections has been arrested and fired for what authorities say they found in his car.

24-year-old Johnny Alton Conner Jr. was arrested after traffic stop on Bethel road, near his workplace, Central Mississippi Correctional Facility.

They believe he may have been in the area because he was scheduled to work that day.

In his vehicle authorities say they found tobacco, crystal methamphetamine, marijuana and a gun.

Conner is facing several charges, including introducing contraband to a correctional facility and possession of a controlled substance enhanced (because of the firearm).

Conner, who was hired last June, has now been terminated and is now the subject of a joint investigation between the MDOC and the Rankin County Sheriff's Department.

All vehicles, including those of correctional officers, are searched upon entering prison grounds.

"The Mississippi Department of Corrections has zero tolerance for anyone attempting to bring contraband onto our prison grounds," Corrections Commissioner Christopher B. Epps said. "We thank Sheriff Bailey for his department's assistance with this arrest."
