Jones County toddler dies after being struck by parent's vehicle

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

According to Jones County Coroner Nancy Barnett, a 19-month old child from the Moselle community of Jones County passed away right before Midnight Tuesday at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg after being accidentally struck by one of her parents.

Jones County Public Information Officer Linda Cranford said volunteer emergency medical responders and rescue units from Moselle, Ovett, Union, Glade, and Calhoun Volunteer Fire Departments responded to an incident on Sellers Road Tuesday evening.

According to officials on scene, the father was pulling down the driveway to jump off another vehicle when the little girl ran out in front of him.

The 19-month old was then air-lifted from the scene and taken to Forrest General by Baptist LifeFlight air ambulance where she later died from the injuries sustained.

The incident remains under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
