Huntsville schools case no longer classified class-action

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund will no longer be party to the case following the judge's ruling. The NAACP Legal Defense Fund will no longer be party to the case following the judge's ruling.
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The judge overseeing the process to desegregate Huntsville City Schools made an important ruling Tuesday.

The case will no longer be handled as a class-action lawsuit. The original filing of the case did not designate it as a class-action suit.

As a result, the attorney for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund will no longer be party to the case.

Because of a long-standing desegregation order, Huntsville City Schools must obtain federal approval before making any zoning changes.

The Department of Justice is fighting Huntsville's recently-submitted plan to make zoning changes.
