Salvation Army Week shows appreciation to local businesses

EASTABUCHIE, MS (WDAM) -

The Salvation Army celebrated National Salvation Army Week by showing their appreciation to local businesses.

The Salvation Army hosted a cook out at WDAM-TV to show their appreciation to the station.

The group cooked hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken for the employees.

"Sometimes, they're donating goods and services, other times, it's just volunteer hours, helping with children or the elderly and it happens all throughout the year, not just at certain seasonal events," said Capt. Andy Gilliam commander of the Hattiesburg Salvation Army.

About 3,000 chapters nationwide are taking part in National Salvation Army Week.

Licensed barber Steve McGill has been cutting hair for 27 years, opening his own shop in Columbia, MS in 1996 but he decided to close the shop because the bills were getting a little out of hand. “The bills kept going up,” McGill says. “So, I went back to the drawing board and I said "You know what? I'm going to build me a mobile unit.”
