Joe's Viewpoint: Veteran's Affairs

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The controversy surrounding the Department of Veterans Affairs has been a hot topic lately. Allegations of falsified records and concerns of how long veterans' treatments have been delayed are among the issues being discussed. It seems self-evident that we should be able to take care of those who have taken care of us. It seems rudimentary that a nation be able to care for those who sacrificed their safety and health by standing heroically on the front lines to ensure our well being and freedoms. Our continuing inability to muster the appropriate resources to take care of our veterans in the manner they truly deserve is a frustration for me and for many. It seems that when a campaign or political agenda is at stake, we find the time and effort to cipher mountains of data to make a point or substantiate a claim. However, it appears we have few answers for these brave individuals and their families. We need to demand that the truth is uncovered and a solution found. Our veterans deserve much better.

This is today's viewpoint.
