Hattiesburg recognizes National Prevention Week

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree signed a proclamation Monday making May, 18 through May, 24 National Prevention Week.

Assistant to the Mayor Valerie Arnold presented the proclamation to DREAM of Hattiesburg and Pine Belt Mental Health Monday morning. National Prevention Week is an health observance dedicated to increasing public awareness on substance abuse and mental health issues. It's also recognizes what organizations like DREAM and Pine Belt do to promote mental health issues.

"National Prevention Week is an opportunity for the community, families, children, youth, church's, and other civic organizations and agencies to be involved in just prevention activities that focus on underage drinking, mental health issues, suicide prevention, alcohol, and other  activities," said Linda Vasquez, Executive Director for DREAM of Hattiesburg.

Dream has several activities scheduled during National Prevention Week.
