The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has set July 15 as the date for an evidentiary hearing involving the Groundworx permit for Hattiesburg.

MDEQ granted Groundworx a permit last month for its land application process to dispose of the city's wastewater.  However, three people, including council woman, Debra Delgado, asked for a hearing claiming the permit was granted without thorough research into the company's emergency plan and environmental effects.

The permit board could approve, modify, or reverse its prior decision, but for now, state law allows for groundworx to continue with its operation.
