The William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine is graduating its first class on May 24, 2014.
This year's graduates are the first to receive a D.O. from the School of Osteopathic Medicine in The State of Mississippi. Seven on your side spoke to Allen Martin, who will become a Doctor in ten days. He says he's extremely excited about his future in medicine.
"I'm from Hattiesburg, originally, so it's a huge sense of pride for me not only to have graduated from medical school, but will have done it in Hattiesburg," Martin said.
"And in my hometown, where the medical community has been very accepting of us, I'm excited to continue to do my residency here."
Martin will be completing his residency at Forrest General Hospital in Family Practice. William Carey University is training student doctors for careers in primary care medicine to address the physician shortage in the Gulf South Region.
