HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Work continues at Hattiesburg High School on rebuilding and damage repair from last February's tornado.
Much of the roof was heavily damaged in the tornado with estimates at about $1.2 million. The roof project is now nearing completion. The transportation yard was completely destroyed. Work has begun there with the building of a new permanent structure for the transportation offices and two new garage structures. The estimated cost there is about $850,000. The school recently received approval for the designs for the renovation of the baseball field.
"It's going to be a state of the art facility, said Willie Burton Jr., Chief of Operations for the Hattiesburg School District. We're using the footprint of the original building. We're reducing the seating size and we'll have outdoor plaza areas and a new clubhouse."
The cost of the renovations is completely covered by insurance.
