The Mississippi Department of Transportation is installing new technology to traffic lights along Highways 98 and 49 in Forrest and Lamar Counties.
This project is the first of its kind in Mississippi and is designed to measure traffic volume to alleviate congested areas.
"The crews are currently adjusting the patterns, the timing patterns on the signals, to account for all the possible congestion that will occur so that they have an adaptive system," said MDOT's Paul Purvis.
It's a 2.14 million dollar project that Purvis said will bring obvious changes to traffic flow when the holiday season comes around.
All technology upgrades have been installed, and motorists should expect different signal timings as they new system adapts to traffic patterns.
