Train derailment cars still resting off the tracks in Jones County

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A pair of train cars are still resting near the tracks from a March 28th derailment along highway 11 in Jones County.

According to Jones County Emergency Management Director Marda Tullos, railroad officials are continuing to monitor the saturated area where the railcars are located.

However, they are unable to move machinery into position to cut up and remove the cars due to the saturated ground.

Railroad and emergency management officials stated there are no harmful fluids left in the cars, just simply their "shells" and hope to begin the process soon.
