LEBANON, TN (WSMV) -

Wilson County investigators have charged a man in the shooting death of his grandson Wednesday night.

Police say 31-year-old James Earl Chase Hoover was shot and killed just after 8 p.m. on Chicken Road.

His girlfriend, Crystal Colyer, was shot in the abdomen and ran to a neighbor's house to get help. She is said to be in stable condition.

Police say the victim's grandfather, James Frances Hoover, had cuts on his face. He was charged Thursday with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide.

All three people are said to have lived together in the home on Chicken Road.

Authorities have not released other information, including a motive or what led to the shooting.

They interviewed several neighbors Thursday as part of the investigation.

"The reasons why we talk to these neighbors is to determine the history. Maybe they've seen some prior altercations or fights," said Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan.

Neighbors say James Frances Hoover had helped raise his grandson, and the man lived in the house on and off for several years.
