Jones, Wayne County declared Federal disaster area

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Monday afternoon Jones County Emergency Management received confirmation that the county has been declared a Federal disaster area.

The declaration makes citizens affected by last weeks storms eligible for individual and public assistance. Residents are urged to register for assistance with FEMA now. Additional information, including the location of a disaster recovery center will be announced soon.

To reach FEMA by phone call 800-621-3362 or go to the FEMA wed site at www.fema.gov or www.disasterassistance.gov.

FEMA has posted an instructional video that explains the registration process.

Wayne County has also been declared a Federal disaster area. A disaster recovery center will open Thursday at noon at the rear of the Central Fire Station, 810 Chickasawhay St. in Waynesboro. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until all county residents are taken a care of.
