One vehicle accident claims life of Jones County resident

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a call of a one vehicle accident on Highway 84 early Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, Trooper Brent Barfield said Jones County resident Derreck Jones, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Barfield, Jones was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 84, a quarter of a mile west of Graves Road, when he left the roadway and struck an oak tree. Barfield said Jones was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle.

The accident is still under investigation by MHP to determine why Jones left the roadway.
