ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

With one month to go until the June 3 Republican primary, Senate candidate Chris McDaniel Saturday held a campaign event on his home turf...literally.

McDaniel hosted dozens of supporters at an informal outdoor event at his home in Ellisville.

He said it was important to show that if elected, he'll spend only as much time as necessary in Washington.

"I'm going to live right here in Ellisville," he said. "I'm going to be accessible to the people. I'm going to listen to the people, I'm going to be responsive to their needs. I'm going to hold town halls, and that's why it's important for them to be here today, to see that we are going to be a man around and of the people," he said.

McDaniel is facing longtime incumbent senator Thad Cochran in that GOP primary.
