"Art for Heart" raised funds for the American Heart Association.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Hundreds of Hub City-area residents gathered at the Hattiesburg Train Depot Friday night to buy some fine art and help out a good cause. About 350 people participated in the annual Art for Heart event for the American Heart Association.
More than 100 pieces of art were up for bid, in both live and silent auctions.
Organizers hoped to raise $170,000.
"All of the money raised here this evening stays within the State of Mississippi and supports 14 different research grants throughout the state, as well as the education that's done in our schools," said Tammy Martin, chairperson for the 2014 Art for Heart.
The event also honored two people, current Hattiesburg Clinic CEO Tommy Thornton and the late Dr. Fred Tatum, who was a founding member of Hattiesburg Clinic.
