Fire destroys two-story home in Jones County

This is a news release from Jones County Fire Council

Wednesday afternoon, April 30, a fire destroyed a two-story brick home in the Union community of Jones County.

Shortly after 4 p.m. fire units from Union, Ovett, Moselle, and Johnson VFDs, along with fire units from Macedonia VFD in Perry County, responded to 179 Kirkland Loop to the home of Kirk and Dawn Tisdale.  Union VFD Fire Chief Tommy Easterling was the first to arrive on scene and found the 2,600 square feet home fully involved in flames with the roof collapsing.

No one was home at the time of the fire except the family pets, a Labrador Retriever and an American Bulldog, who both perished in the fire.

A Dixie Electric Power Association technician, who was working in the neighborhood, saw the smoke and called 911 when he discovered that the home was on fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Jones County Sheriff's Department Fire Investigator Sgt. Scott Gable.
