WDAM Live

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Southern Miss athletic director Bill McGillis formally introduced Doc Sadler as the 20th head men's basketball coach at the university Thursday afternoon.

Sadler comes to Southern Miss after spending the 2013-2014 as an assistant coach at Iowa State. Sadler helped lead the Cyclones to 28-8 record and an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

The Arkansas native has eight years of experience as a head coach at the Division I level. Sadler was the head coach at the University of Texas-El Paso from 2004-2006 prior to coaching the University of Nebraska from 2006-2012.

"My family and I are very excited to be joining the Southern Miss family. I look forward to being a part of the unbelievable tradition of the Golden Eagle basketball program and building on the great foundation already in place," Sadler said.

Sadler takes over a Golden Eagle basketball team that finished the 2013-2014 season with a 29-7 overall record and an appearance in the National Invitation Tournament quartfinals.
