HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior rightfielder Mason Robbins earned Monday the Conference USA Hitter of the Week in a vote by the league office in Irving, Texas.
Robbins hit .533 for the week, going 8-for-15 with a double, a home runs and five RBI. He added a stolen base, to go along with a .563 on base percentage and a .800 slugging percentage.
The Leakesville, Miss., native had multiple hits in three of four games against nationally ranked opponent last week, including a 4-for-4 performance with four RBI in a win at No. 8 Alabama that gave Southern Miss a
season sweep of the Crimson Tide.
His two-run homer late in the contest helped put the game away for the Golden Eagles as he collected a season-high hit totalin the contest.
Robbins added two hits in the opener against No. 11 Rice on Friday and drove in the first run of the series finale with a single in the final game of the series before later doubling in that win giving him 12 multi-hit contests this season.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that he has been named C-USA Hitter of the Week.
Middle Tennessee senior left-hander Zac Curtis earned the league’s Pitcher of the Week honor for the second time this season.
The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday, April 30, when they travel to Oxford to face nationally ranked Ole Miss in a 6:30 p.m., contest.
