Inmate assaults correctional officer at Jones County Adult Detention Center

THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE JONES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

On Sunday, April 27, 2014 at approximately 9:15 Sgt. Lance Williams was dispatched to the Jones County Adult Detention Center in reference to an assault on a correctional officer by a female inmate.

Upon arrival, Sgt. Williams made contact with the correctional officer who had several lacerations to his facial area.  The correctional officer advised Sgt. Williams that he had just picked up the breakfast trays and was administering the medication to the inmates when he turned his attention to inmate Tysheka Gordan.  After speaking with Gordan, the officer opened the cell door and Gordan rushed out of the cell and began to physically attack him, stabbing him several times with a sharp object.  The officer was able to back away from Gordan in an attempt to create distance between them.  Gordan then ran down the hall toward the booking area where she was apprehended by another Correctional Officer whom she also attacked before being taken down.

Gordan has a history of domestic violence and aggravated assault charges.  She is in jail for a Aggravated Assault from charge earlier this year.

Gordan will have her initial appearance today at 2:30 at Justice Court where she will be charged with Aggravated Assault on a Correctional Officer and Attempted Escape.
