HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The family of a man killed in Hattiesburg on Sunday says they witnessed the shooting.

Sunday night, Oliver Griffin of Hattiesburg, 38, was shot outside of Pinehaven Apartments.

"There was a domestic disturbance in the complex, and [Ray Allen] Thompson, who was the courtesy officer for the complex, went to investigate the situation,"said HPD through an official report. "The deceased was involved in the domestic disturbance, and they ended up in the parking lot where the shooting took place."

Griffin died at the scene. Griffin's 16-year-old son said he tried to save and revive his dad, but the alleged gunman, Thompson, kept him at bay at gunpoint.

Ray Allen Thompson was arrested at the scene and is now charged with murder. He was released Monday on $50,000 bond.

Griffin was confirmed dead by Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem.

Authorities sent the body to Jackson for an autopsy.
