One dead in Hattiesburg apartment shooting

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg police responded to a fatal shooting at apartments located at 571 Helveston Road around 6:05 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, police found one male in the parking lot suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim, Oliver Griffin, 38, of Hattiesburg has been confirmed dead by Forrest County Deputy Coroner, Lisa Klem. The body has been sent to the state crime lab for autopsy.

The apartment's courtesy officer, not associated with HPD, was on the scene. The courtesy officer was taken into custody as the shooter but the investigation is still ongoing. More details as they emerge.

Any witnesses to the scene, especially those who might have filmed the incident, are asked to please contact the Hattiesburg Police Department.

    A person died in a Friday night auto accident in Hattiesburg.  Hattieasburg Police Department responded to a wreck at the intersection of Hardy Street and 19th Avenue. According to officers, four cars collided and a male was transported from the scene by ambulance and later pronounced dead. The cause of the accident has not been determined.
