FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Lt. Governor Tate Reeves was in the Pine Belt Saturday, to learn more about forestry and how government can help the state's tree farmers. Reeves spoke to the Forrest-Lamar Forestry Assn. at a Field Day event.

It was hosted by former State Rep. Gene Saucier.

Reeves said as Mississippi continues to recruit manufacturing jobs, it should also maintain its strong support of agriculture.

"We have such an abundance in our state of natural resources, the land, the trees, the ability to grow crops and we've got to take advantage of that," Reeves said. "It's not the only industry, we can't allow it to be the only industry for the future of our state, but it's a vital, vital piece to the future economic growth. We need to continue to see investment in it and that's what a lot of people at this event are talking about," he said.

The Field Day is an annual event.
